DT Varalusikka: Mixed Media Tag by Riikka

Blossoming like a crown Hi there! It’s Riikka here with a mixed media tag. I received some beautiful Paper Garden printables from previous Paper Garden kits in my last DT pack. Oh my, they are gorgeous! And so easy to use as they have elements to match and layer. I created this little tag with elements from one of the sheets.    As you can see from the video I made, I started with collaging. That’s a handy way to start a project. This time I used a chipboard tag which already had an adhesive coating, but you can naturally use soft body gel medium or clear gesso to adhere the first...

DT Varalusikka: Mixed Media Tag by Riikka

Love
Enjoy the tiny wonders Hello there! It’s Riikka here today sharing a mixed media tag with you. While I was making it, I recorded a little video. I carried with this project like so many of mine – having an original idea what I wanted to do (a mixed media tag) and then letting the project lead me.    As you can see from the video, I start by adhering some papers to my tag base. The greyish looking paper is from the Texture Inspiration Bundle and the old book page is from an old Bible. They make up a base layer for my tag. On top I then collaged some postal stamps and tickets using clear...

DT Varalusikka: Art Journaling by Riikka

Love
Call me if anything should happenMoikka, it’s Riikka here today! I’m sharing a journal page I did using different Paper Garden elements. As always, I recorded a video of my process and you can see that little further down the post. As you may have already noticed, I’m drawn to the tea colors. For this page the inspiration became of the vintage sticker from the Finnabair Art Daily -line. When I then added the text to the corner of the page, as a title of sorts, I found this sentence from a Finnish book: “Call me if anything should happen”. The book was telling about a nurse, head nurse I...

DT Varalusikka: Valentine's Day Inspiration by Riikka

2020-02-13
Love
Un peu, beaucoup Hello lovelies! It’s Riikka here today to share a quick card with you! This one was inspired by Valentine’s Day and also by Jani’s wonderful Christmas card, which I saw at Paper Garden’s Instagram account.  I didn’t use much mediums in this card, but there’s still several of them. I used double sided tape for collaging this time, but coated the layers using clear gesso. This is because I like to have a little bit of open time with watercolors – with the gesso layer especially the soft vintage papers don’t absorb the color right away, but I can shuffle the colors around a...

How to Use Mixed Media Part 2 - Adhesives & Soft Matte Gel

How to Use Mixed Media – Part 2:  Adhesives & Soft Matte Gel   (* This series of tutorials is aimed for beginners, but of course advanced mixed media artists are very welcomed to peek how I use these materials, too. *) When I want to attach papers to my journal page, I have two options as adhesives. Glue or Soft Matte Gel. Which one I choose, depends on how I want my papers to go into the journal. Glue is my usual choice, when attaching little details, flowers, lace, or just maybe one or two papers or prints into a page. It’s easy. But. If I want to have an even base on my page, for...

Taming the Idea of Using Mixed Media, Part 1: Basic Tools

Taming the Idea of Using Mixed Media – Part 1:  Basic Tools (* This series of tutorials is aimed for beginners, but of course advanced mixed media artists are very welcomed to peek how I use these materials, too. *) Before going further into the world of mixed media, there are few basic tools that are, if not necessarily vital, then handy and convenient for crafting within the world of mixed media.   (Scissors are an obvious one, and sharp, good scissors are a treasure, but I won’t be giving them much attention here, you probably have a pair at your home anyway.) Baby WipesI always...

One Step at a Time: Taming the Idea of Using Mixed Media in Journaling

2020-01-28
Love
Most of you probably know mixed media better than me, but as I have had so many questions, enquiries, and kind pleas to share how I use mixed media in my (art) journaling, I decided to do it in a very simple way. One step at a time, I will introduce my favourite media to you, and show how I use them.  For you already mastering the art of mixed media, this is no news for you, but for those who has only a vague knowledge what it is (something messy, something too laborious or hard, something to be afraid of), this series of tutorials is for you. We are going to tame the idea of using mixed...
