DT Varalusikka: Rose Garden Journaling by Paperiliitin

2019-06-25
Love
Heippa! It’s Riikka here today to share a project with you. This time I did a video to go with it so you can see my process. It’s an easy peasy journal page, inspired by glossy pictures.  I’m not sure if glossy pictures as widely known. In Finnish they are called “kiiltokuva”. I think the tradition might come from Germany and the little pictures are known throughout the Nordic countries, but for example Wikipedia doesn’t have a page about them in English. So maybe they are only known here in the Northern Europe.  As a child I had a collection of glossy pictures. I also have my mother’s...

DT Varalusikka: Step by Step - Let Life Surprise You Journal Page by Paperiliitin

2019-05-07
Love
Hi there! It's Riikka from Paperiliitin blog here today to share a little project with you! It's good to be back and hopefully post something inspiring for you!  It's spring time and soon after that it's summer and then the fields are filled flowers! You can already see a hint of green creeping in underneath the snow. First daring flowers are emerging from the snow drifts and the ever increasing light makes the birds sing and makes little brooks appear.    I used some of the gorgeous old papers from Paper Garden as my background, layered some pretty Paper Garden washi on top and...

Varalusikka's Favourite Printables

2019-04-12
Love
Greetings from the Paper Garden! So many of our dear customers have asked during the years, if we could sell the beautiful prints we use in our junk journals, monthly boxes, everywhere. We have often thought about it, collecting pdf printables or prints, but somehow it has never felt quite right. You see, lots of the images we use are from Pinterest. Naturally, most are from our own private collections, but there are more documents and like, not that many botanical prints etc. But the ones most beautiful are usually from Pinterest, free to use, when just dig deep enough to find them. So, we...

DT Varalusikka: Jehkotar Altered Book 2 / 2019

2019-03-27
Love
A short summary of Jehkotar's blogpost in English. Taru created her first altered book and used Varalusikka Paper Garden materials for it. She made also a short video about it.  Taru covered the spread with clear gesso, let it dry properly, and sprayed the pages with Tattered Angels brown Glimmer Mist spray. Then she took a baby wipe and wiped the page through a Tim Holtz stencil to get a tattered, worn out, soft pattern. The next step was layering the pages with washi tapes and papers. Taru distressed the paper edges with brown Distress Inks, and stamped some papers with stamps from...

Guest Project by Paperiliitin: Paint the Sky with Stars

2018-11-11
Love
Moikka! It’s Riikka here with second last guest project! These last two projects make a pair of some sort. They are similar in ways but yet so different in others. Both of the projects have similar mediums in use but differ in color – the other one is pale and subtle, the other one, as you can see, dark with deep colors. This project is constructed on top of an old book cover. A cover is perfect for this kind of assemblage as it’s sturdy enough to hold the weight of the embellishments and moisture of the mediums. I love to do assemblages as I can then play with different embellishments and...
