DT Varalusikka: Step by Step with Riikka

2019-11-11
Love
Hi there! It’s Riikka here today to share a tiny project with you! Well, maybe it’s not tiny but not a huge canvas either. The inspiration came from a wooden frame I had in my stash and I wanted to decorate it so it could be used as a decoration or even a door hanging.     I like to work with a multitude of surfaces. I love how mixed media can be applied to cards, layouts or big altered pieces. It’s really wonderful to turn different found items into something new and try different sizes. I’m more drawn into small or medium pieces, but this summer I also experimented with huge canvases....

"Magic Is Something You Create"

Greetings from the Paper Garden!   It’s time to tell you the story of Paper Garden, unique and different from others, as all stories are. During the four years of Paper Garden Tero has been The Boss, and me, Emilia, has been there hanging around and causing as much trouble and inspiration as possible. However, even if I have tried always to stress the fact that Varalusikka and its Paper Garden are Tero’s, customers have found it difficult to understand. It is an easy mistake to make, as it’s me who spend her time in the social media and upload pretty photos on Instagram. But there’s much...

DT Varalusikka: Jehkotar Altered Book 4 / 2019

2019-08-02
Love
A short summary of Jehkotar's blogpost in English. Taru created a new spread to her Varalusikka Altered Book. She glued papers from the Paper Garden subscription boxes first. Then she used washis, doilies, tickets etc., and tickets made with Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous ticket stamps. The next stemp was to add vintage photois and Tim Holtz paper dolls. After letting the pages dry properly, Taru used crayons/other colouring pens to give contrast to the pages. You can use pens like watercolour pens, crayons, oil pastels, Stabilo Alls, Faber-Castell Artist Brushses... With the chosen...

DT Varalusikka: Flower ATCs by Paperiliitin

2019-08-02
Love
Moikka! It’s Riikka here today to share a little project with you. This time the beautiful flower pages of an herbarium inspired me, and I did some ATCs using them. You could use these as a part of your journal or then scale the techniques a bit bigger and do a journal page instead.  I started by cutting bases for ATCs out of kraft colored cardstock. The measurements are 2½x3½”. But naturally, if you are doing an insert to your page or a gift tag, you can use any size substrate. Then I covered the background with the vintage treasures from Paper Garden. I just love the color of the old...

DT Varalusikka: Rose Garden Journaling by Paperiliitin

Heippa! It’s Riikka here today to share a project with you. This time I did a video to go with it so you can see my process. It’s an easy peasy journal page, inspired by glossy pictures.  I’m not sure if glossy pictures as widely known. In Finnish they are called “kiiltokuva”. I think the tradition might come from Germany and the little pictures are known throughout the Nordic countries, but for example Wikipedia doesn’t have a page about them in English. So maybe they are only known here in the Northern Europe.  As a child I had a collection of glossy pictures. I also have my mother’s...
